Good-bye holidays!

The holiday madness is now wrapping up. Every year I struggle with a dose of post-holiday depression. Christmas fits very well with my personality and aesthetic traits. Bright colors, sparkles, twinkles, cheer and joy. It's hard to come down from a season so enveloped with creativity and magic.

We took a break from developing the new line to put our efforts towards making the holiday season sparkling and bright. Take a look at a few of the items we doused with our creative juices over the past month.

Instead of buying the normal stick-on bows for our gifts this year, we did a bit of creative recycling. We gathered all the red and green scrap fabric we could find. Add a hefty dose of ric-rak, buttons, and other random adornments, and you've got an upcycled Christmas. These were such a hit with our families that we actually caught relatives digging through the trash to save ones that were tossed away in the gift unwrapping mayhem. Who says recycled can't be beautiful?

Normally our creativity sticks to items of the crafty variety, but every now and again, the baking bug will bite us. Fueled by a looming work-related cookie contest and inspired by a post from Bakerella, the Happy Meal cookies were born.

We're happy to report these babies snagged the Best in Show 2009 award at the contest. I love getting rewarded for just having some creative fun.

Now that we've had the chance to step outside the mightyfine design confines, we're excited to get our collective nose back to the grindstone. It's crunch time for the Spring 2010 line, expect some previews in the coming weeks.

Family and Friends

We promised a sneak peak at the final Waxmas piece and so here it is—in video form. Check out the most recent entry from the Wax Vlog where mightyfine design gets it's very own shout-out.

Doing work for family and friends is always a welcomed break from client work. It's nice to be able to share our talents with those we love the most. Plus, they tend to give us a little more creative freedom than our typical client. Recently, my sister commissioned us to make her a few bags for holiday gifts. When I asked her what colors and styles she was looking for, she simply said "I like all of your stuff, just do something that'll hide dirt well, because I'll probably be wearing it all the time." Now that, we can handle.

Waxmas 10 Handlettered Promotions

We've being working on some guerrilla marketing materials for Wax Philosophic, a herd of Canadian hip-hoppers made up of some close friends (and even some family) from Craig's hometown of Thunder Bay, Ontario. They are celebrating their 10th annual holiday show this December and have asked us to do some handlettered promotions.

My favorite part is the Waxmas Tree. Complete with Craig-original illustrations. Nothing like a few bottles of Olde English and a pepperoni pizza or two to deck the halls. This is a work in progress. Stay tuned to see the final piece in an upcoming entry.

If you find yourself in Northern Ontario this holiday season, take an evening and check out one of their shows.

Finding Inspiration in Everyday — With a twist of lime...

Here at mightyfine design, we like to partake in the tradition of Friday evening cocktail hour. Few things say "Hi weekend, glad you could make it!" like a frothy beer or a tartly sweet margarita. But the king (or queen, depending on which glass you choose) of the cocktail hour is clear. And bubbly. And has a hefty dose of gin and a twist of lime. In fact, our love for one certain crisp cocktail has made its way into the inspiration for our Spring/Summer 2010 line.

We'll reveal later how we got inspired (and maybe a little tipsy) off the gin and tonic. For now, take a look at these other great Etsyians to see how they were inspired by cocktail culture.
